Lightbulb Horses!?!

Iknow this might make the game just like WoW but I think that you should be able to have a horse tht you can ride (but you must use a skill slot to be able to use it, just like a running skill) and when your not riding it, it runs along side you. Also if you were to die your horse ran back to the nearest outpost, just like they do in real life (they run home if you fall off).

Any thoughts please post!

Pick a character.
Walk around the world.
Have you seen a giraffe? Or a zebra? Or a donkey? Or a sheep?
There are only 'cow-like' creatures in Tyria.

We already have Devourers and Junundu.
Who the hell wants a Hourse when you can mount a Siege Devourer?

Mounting Junundu Wurms and Siege Devourer is the best mode for transportation.

Siege Turtles are also good, but only if you're a pirate.

Plus, we don't need Mounts for GW1. GW2 we might, but only if the Asuran Gate network is lacking...

Hmmm good point. I never noticed that. Might have something to do with the fact that a horse is one of the most difficult animals to animate (since its four legs move independent of each other, its much tricker to animate the movement of a horse-like creature then other 4 legged animals).

ive done horse animations before, the problem with horses is it has several running speeds like the basic walk, trot, canter and gallop and each one is a different run pattern.

imo, horses don't fit too well in the GW universe.. its too...realistic.

If you want a galloping mount...i have idea for mounting on giant elks...........

The devourer's 6 legs each move in their own way.

And Zhed and all centaur have Horse legs (The ONLY horse-like representation in the whole GW universe, XD).

But again, a mount that is just meant to ride and go to places have no sense in GW. Mounts in GW must be like the Junundu and the Devourer, and have some use in battle.
Horses would be just monster feed.

In WoW, there is actually a point to mounts. You need them to travel round the world quickly. Well, not need, but they're useful. With map travel, whats the point? The only use for mounts is for special skills like in the Siege Devourer.

Maybe those of us who can't mount a Siege Devourer would like that.

I think GW1 should stay like it is now and these ideas go for GW2.

think how many people will be doing runs if all you do is use a skill and run laods faster for a large amount of time.

i think horses is an awsome idea, not because it makes it easier to get around or all that crap, just cause itd be bloody awsome to charge into battle on a war horse, admit the practicalities are limited especialy in Gw 1 but in Gw 2 this would be a fun idea that im sure they could figure out

Cool

Thats exactly what I was thinking of, a battlehorse is just so awsome and even better if you could buy armour for it

lol, this sentence is somewaht of plain stupid ...

but black bears, polar bears, lions, mountain eagles and any other ingame real animals are not

"TOO REALISTIC"

come on, thats a bad joke -.- horses would also fit into the game, the problem is only that people imagine with horses a too realistic timeage for GW, and that there exist in the world of GW still creatures which can also be seen/used as mounts, which are fantasy creatures and fantasy creatures simple have more "style" as mounts, then simple horses.
When you would have to choose between 3 different possible mounts, for example:

- Horse
- Gryphon
- Dragon

I can tell you for sure, in percentage the result would be this, in kind of how much took which mount:

-Horse > ~5%
-Gryphon > ~15%
-Dragon > ~80%

Would we even take a 4th mount into it, it would looks for sure like this:

-Horse > ~1%
-Gryphon > ~12%
-Any Colored Moa > ~17%
-Dragon > ~70%

However, I'm theoretically for them, but when hopefully mounts come in GW2 and under them Prestige Mounts too like Dragons (when the class Dragoon will come, he needs then none extra mount anymore , unless those races which ride on dragon types that can't fly) i see no future in Horses, because horses are then simple too boring and useless - simple, why should a take a Horse, when I can have a prestige Mount Dragon, with that I can fly then from town to town and this then in a wonderful persistent world look, flying really from point to point and not by stupid boring map travels, where the game has then only to load some files.
When a fly with a dragon around in a 3D world, i want to enjoy my flight and see something of the world in that I fly (this is the part, where people surely will cry now for WoW /sigh ) .... thats something i would really expect of GW 2 ...no boring map travels anymore, when making it quick, there should be other ways like the Asura "Star Gates" which hopefully have then in GW2 a similar animation when opening the wurmholes, that then such a nice energyblast appears and that those gates get a little tower in their near, where the player has to give in coordinates for the wished travel goal and that the gate needs then some seconds for opening the connection, not just only simple boring running in and then loading again only ....

i want so see a little animation then, how it feels to get warped by those gates, naturally all activateable/deativateable by menu, or just stoppable like the video scenes per button click on "overspring", or people buy then warp runestones and warp with them automatically there, where you want to be, something similar like in the gothic games.
or players can simple learn teleport magic as a new core spell which any class can use. This would be nice ways for players that simple won#t take fr them the little time to travel around, but want to be everywhere in some seconds, as people do in GW1 per map traveling oO

but traveling trough buyable warp runestones or by teleport magic has simple more style and the players needs then not to open ever the whole map for traveling, just only the item menu, click twice the warp runestone item, choose place where to warp too and warp ....like in gothic games .... those stones could be used then to travel to towns and outposts that u#ve traveld at least once. there are really so much things anet can learn from offline games ...sigh
